For the past 6 months, following an extensive consultation, the UK Government have maintained they would “put fans first”, “ban ticket touting” and “smash the model” of ticket touts.
Today, in the King’s Speech, they made a sideways step towards that goal – announcing a “draft bill” that reintroduces a list of measures previously announced in November 2025.
The detail of this bill can be viewed here (p64).
Effectively, it means any progress to ban ticket touting at music events will probably be paused for a year (at least).
Adam Webb, Campaign Manager, FanFair Alliance:
“We fully support the Government’s commitment to “put fans first” and ban ticket touting “as soon as possible”.
“However, draft legislation offers a curiously circuitous route to deliver these long-promised reforms.
“Why take the long road when you could protect music fans today?”
